I like how you remembered Putnam. Do you think Shirky and Putnam are writing about the same (or similar) social communities? Do their respective communities provide the same kind of social capital? Interesting idea! We'll have to talk more. :-)

Documentaries are like you say, filmed from one person’s perspective. This one is no different, except that it is several people who are being interviewed, and also that is uses professional opinions to show their point. There are always negative sides about corporations, but these sides are always looked at first instead of looking at the positive sides of a corporation. Yes, corporations have an impact on a society, and it is either good or bad. The goal of the corporations is to make profit, and in order to get there, their decisions are not always positive.

I thought that the person you chose was very intresting and from your post I learned alot about him. The fact that he is trying to get in the senate is really cool and the fact that his father did it before him too. You also did a really good job describing who he was and what he did.

I never looked at this film that way, but now that I do I completely agree. It is very tough if not impossible to create an unbiased documentary about corporations, and this documentary is very one sided in a negative way towards corporations. I did not know a lot about corporations and CEOs prior to this documentary so I find it interesting to be watching this during our english class and blogging about it later to see what our peers think of the same video.

I agree too that it's pretty cool that we can unload a but of information once so that it can be seen by a group of people instead of repeating it. Also though, I think that people have the choose how much they want to. After all they are on the blog and have to realize a number of people will be reading this and sometimes I think, who cares these people don't know me. I do think it can make relationships superfilcial but we just need to try and stay true even though technology is taking over.

I really agree with your opinion that it's difficult to create an objective documentary about a controversial subject. My preconceived notion about corporations, prior to watching what I've seen of The Corporation, was that corporations are everywhere and that's just always how it's been since they came into play. However, I think this documentary has opened up my eyes of this subject and has helped me begin to form an opinion of them. The topic that captivated me the most in this film so far is the way that corporations are treated in the judicial world. I never realized that they were granted the same rights that were put into effect with the purpose of protecting newly freed slaves. This subject makes me question the judges that went along with the idea that corporations can have the same freedoms as people.

I'm not really familiar with using citations and bibliographies either, especially since I didn't take an english course last year. It was pretty interesting to find out how much you can learn just by their daily posts.

Haha yeah facebook does kind of have a "stalker-ish" quality to it but I think that is one of the things that makes it so appealing (as long as you don't cross that fine line or really being a stalker...). You are able to learn so much simply by looking at someone's page, and you probably wouldn't have know that stuff about that person otherwise. That's one of the things I like about facebook, in addition to making it convenient to keep in touch with friends who go to another college. It's a pretty fun site.

I really agree with the points you made about society being addicted to the internet and relationships becoming superficial. Even as I was supposed to be working on my English blog, I found myself moving away from it to check my mail or listen to a webradio. Also, as far as superficial relationships go, do you ever find yourself seeing an aquaintance around campus and having a meaningless conversation with them? (You know, the "Hi how are you? Good, how are you? conversation.) I think a lot of that comes from the superficial relationships that you're talking about
